چکیده

The objective of our present work was to prepare transdermal matrix patches containing the drug, diclofenac diethylamine with various polymeric combinations of polyvinylpyrrolidone and ethylcellulose and to study the mechanism of release of the drug from the patches and its skin permeation. Sorbitan monolaurate 20 (Span 20), a non-ionic surfactant was added to the concentrations (0.1% wt/vol), as a skin permeation enhancer to the drug, diclofenac diethylamine. In vitro skin permeation studies, with rat skin, using a modified Keshary-Chien diffusion cell, were carried out to establish the most favorable polymeric combination and the impact of Span 20 was also studied. Extensive electron microscopy studies were conducted and the underlying mechanism of drug release from the patches and its permeation through skin are discussed. Cumulative amounts of drug released, per cm2 of patch after 48 hours, were found to be 2.6111 mg, 3.53 Mukhergee-vol5no1 3/8/05 4:14 PM Page 96

The effect of acid modification of porcine mucin on its drug release and skin permeation properties in insulin transdermal patches

The study aimed at determining the effect of acid modified porcine mucin powder on the release and permeation of insulin in transdermal patches. Various batches of insulin patches were prepared by solvent casting method using polysorbate 80 as emulsifying agent and acid treated and untreated mucin powders as base. The patches were evaluated for their physical properties, folding endurance, moi...

Meloxicam transdermal delivery: effect of eutectic point on the rate and extent of skin permeation

Objective(s):Drug delivery through the skin can transfer therapeutic levels of drugs for pharmacological effects. Analgesics such as NSAIDs have gastrointestinal side effects and topical dosage forms of these drugs are mainly preferred, especially for local pains. Meloxicam is one of NSAIDs with no topical form in the market. In this research, we attempted to quantify the skin permeation of a m...

Influence of chemical enhancer and loading dose on caffeine and Vitamin B5 skin permeation and adhesion properties of transdermal patches

Evaluated in this study were the effects of the two parameters, namely level of penetration enhancer and drug loading dose, on in vitro skin release of Caffeine and vitamin B5 and adhesion properties of drug in adhesive transdermal systems. In order to characterize in vitro drug release, a hydrodynamically Chien permeation system with rat abdominal skin was employed. Caffeine skin release rate ...
